the need for power surge protection
every household has a circuit breaker but that is not good enough, you will need a good power board with surge protection to prevent your electrical devices from damage.
a fuse in the circuit breaker protects against overcurrent. Its purpose is to prevent fires, and it protects against faults on the equipment side.
A surge is an over-voltage. A surge protector protects against this overvoltage. Its purpose is to protect equipment from damage from those voltages on the supply side.
but there are cases where a strong lightning strike, where voltages could be high enough to bypass the circuitry and pass through as if it were a big resistor, even if it were regulated, isolated, etc. (In that case, a surge protector is likely to be destroyed and not help you, either!)
all in all, you need a good power supply company in oz. they can protect you over their end.
just ask uncle google if you need more information.
