the above article mentioned the pros over popping your emails on your local computer citing privacy and storage issues. personally, i think it’s better to use email providers with 2 factor authentication. also, using imap protocol emails are mostly encrypted with ssl tunneling, so your email data are not so easy to assemble, even with sniffing. note that emails that use pop protocol, mostly doesn’t come with encryption as dictated by the port number 110 and 25.
besides, once your emails are downloaded, it’s gone forever if your computer is stolen. secondly, backing up emails can be a hassle as users may switch email clients for reading emails. thus, requiring to convert the format of your emails.
